MCA Courses for the Professional Sailor
The MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) approved engine, medical and radio communications courses take the professional sailor to a whole new level of skill and expertise.

MCA Approved Engine Course (AEC, 4 days)
Prerequisites:
- 18 years of age
- One months service as a yacht engineer
This 30 hour practical and theory course is the first rung in the ladder to becoming a ship’s engineer.
The course is run by Paul Bennett who is one of the leading engineering instructors in the world today.
MCA Certificate of Proficiency
in
Medical First Aid aboard ship (3 days)
Prerequisites:
- Candidates must be 16 years of age
- One months service as a yacht engineer
- Candidates must have successfuly completed, within the last 5 years, an elementary First Aid Course in accordance with section A-VI /1-3 of the STCW code.
- Candidates must have served at sea for at least 6 months.
Candidates over 16 who do not fulfill these criterea but who have served at sea for 12 months prior to 1/9/98 are eligeable to take the course.
MCA Proficiency in Medical care aboard ship ( 5 days)
Prerequisites:
- Candidates must be 21 years of age
- Candidates must have successfuly completed, in the last five years, a proficiency in Medical First Aid aboard ship course in accordance with section A-VI/4-1 of the STCW code.
- Candidates must have served at sea for at least 18 months.
- Candidates over 21 who do not fulfill these criteria but who are in possession of a pre STCW 1995 First Aid at sea or Ships Captains Medical Certificate and have the required sea time, are currently eligeable to undertake the course
MCA GMDSS Restricted Operator’s
Certificate
(3 days inc. exam)

MCA GMDSS General Operator’s
Certificate
(8/9 days inc. exam)
There are no prerequisites.
