Day Skipper

This practical sailing course gives you a chance to take charge on short passages under instruction with plenty of advice and help from the instructor. It is designed for tidal waters and lasts for five days. As with RYA Start Sailing and Competent Crew, it can be done over five days or two/three weekends. Successful completion of the RYA Day Skipper theory course, which Downwind Sailing offers, is highly recommended. During the five days, you will learn how to moor a boat in a marina, anchor and pick up moorings under sail. You will also learn about pilotage and navigation by day and night and how to pick up a man over board, you will learn how to recognise other vessels by their lights and shapes and the basic elements of the “Rule of the Road”. The course is completion only and once awarded the certificate you can apply for an International Certificate of Competence and charter most sailing boats up to 13 metres anywhere in the world.
